In the UK

Since 2020 and the UK leaving the EU the legal burden on many companies in the cosmetic and chemical industries has increased.

Those selling in both the UK and EU have seen compliance workloads almost double as the UK Government has duplicated many of the EU’s regulatory requirements.

Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 on Cosmetic Products has been copied from the EU to a degree with minor changes. The UK still requires products to be registered in a similar way whilst being cut off from EU services such as ECHA and the CPNP.

Elerium Safety and Compliance has been working with the new regulations since they gradually started to come into action in 2019.

In the EU

The European Union has long had many regulations that relate to placing products on the market in any of its member states. Many of these regulations involve an amount of documentation which can be mind boggling to the inexperienced.

Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 on Cosmetic Products has been around for a while but keeps evolving. For small companies bringing cosmetics to market this can be a heavy load to bear when time is much better spent designing products and actually selling them.

Chemicals are also subject to more and more increasing regulation. The chemicals everyone sees as dangerous have been heavily regulated but there are increasing legal requirements for other chemical mixtures such as fragranced candles and reed diffusers also.
